It’s fine.

Yellow has been a trim color for Scotland for decades, and since it was first introduced as a primary color (for shirts, at least) in 1985 it has appeared several times (1996, 2002, 2004, 2010).  This iteration is probably the best one since the 2002 model (during Scotland’s brief tenure with Fila), but not as good as the original Umbro top of 1985.

While there is some “texture” used to spice up the design (noticeable on the tops of the two flanking players) the top is pretty standard issue Adidas stuff beyond that.  As one Instagram commenter noted it would look much better with a blue band across the portion of the chest where the Adidas and SFA logos are located.  I agree, and this was one of the best features of the FILA kit I mentioned.  It would also harken back to the original 1985 yellow-dominated kit which had an- inexplicable- yellow band across the, ah, nether regions.  Not a good look on shorts, but it happened so why pretend it didn’t.

I think my main gripe with this as a kit is that shorts and socks are completely “vanilla” in appearance and lend nothing to the overall look.  They could be paired with a blue or red top with very little change in the overall presentation of the kit.

Not a bad kit, could be better.*

*not that we have to worry about anyone seeing it at a major tournament…
